Borrowing Light, Connecting Everyday Life
The most unexpected transformation in this 485 sq.ft home happens in the bathroom. Frosted glass blocks borrow daylight from the study window, brightening a once-dark space while providing visual screening. A more balanced layout, with only three additional square feet, gives the bathroom a more open feel. Terracotta-toned tiles and cabinetry bring warmth and continuity.
Designed for an owner who mainly lives alone and occasionally welcomes friends to stay, the home balances connection with independence. Glass sliding doors and curtains let spaces open into one another or form distinct zones for work, rest and overnight guests.
The living and dining areas move towards the full-height window, bringing the view and natural light into everyday life. Storage is concentrated at the entrance to free circulation. A textured light-terracotta feature wall and cabinet lines extending upwards give the living area warmth and a stronger sense of height.
Replanning the former bedrooms creates room for a piano, a lounge chair and a comfortable study. The L-shaped multifunction room shares space and light with the living area, while curtains provide flexible screening for the bathroom approach or an occasional guest sleeping area. Concealed wardrobes, spherical wall lights and a softly lit windowsill give the main bedroom a calm character.
A small detail also makes laundry easier. Clothes collect in a dedicated basket area in the bathroom, accessible from the kitchen side through a two-way sliding panel. Washing, drying and related household storage are brought together in one central zone, reducing trips between rooms. The water heater, laundry appliances and recycling units are neatly concealed, while the former balcony becomes a breakfast nook.
